Dog Training Tip

Introducing a new pup to your older dog

You are so excited to add a new pup to your family,

however, is your current canine ready for a teething active youngster? Practice these tips to help your older dog adjust to it's new companion.

1)Introduce them in neutral territory

2)Allow them to sniff each other if there is no growling, snapping or biting

3)Always greet the older dog first

4)Have each dog sit calmly while you are petting the other dog

5)Do not force the puppy on the older dog

6)Do not rush this process, they will establish their relationship on their own time

Puppies have needle sharp teeth and cause pain when they bite us or another dog. The older dog will usually correct the puppy harshly but will rarely hurt the pup. This also teaches the pup bite inhibition and puts him in his place.

It may take some time but by allowing the pups to interact as nature intended, they will most likely develop a healthy and close relationship.
